Comprehension Quizzes
Each graded English article includes a short comprehension quiz designed to help students check their understanding. These quizzes can also be used to help students identify an appropriate reading level.
“Check Your Understanding”
Students select the article and/or audio they have read and/or listened to, and the system automatically generates a unique five-question quiz. Each quiz is randomly generated from a pool of six sets of true sentences (each set is three consecutive sentences drawn directly from the selected text) and six sets of false sentences (each set is three consecutive sentences that are plausible but not included in the selected article).
Students select “In the article” if they remember reading the content of the sentences, or “Not in the article” if they do not.
This assessment method supports the core goals of extensive reading by encouraging careful reading and listening without interrupting fluency. The focus is on recognition and understanding rather than detailed analysis.
If a student reads or listens carefully to the entire article, they should be able to answer all five questions correctly.
These quizzes also support level selection. When a text is at an appropriate level, a student should be able to read the entire article quickly and comfortably—typically in under ten minutes—and answer the questions with ease. If a student needs significantly more time or struggles to answer the questions, the text is likely above their current level.
